The allure of railways at night is very strong, with the whole environment taking on a whole new atmosphere.  Perhaps surprisingly though, the number of photographs of this era taken after dark seems quite small, so to find a few in Malcolm's collection was very pleasing. And here are three scenes of 38 class locomotives taken under cover of dark. Compared to some night photography, the reliance on available light lends an authenticity to the images which is very pleasing. I think some more searches of Malcolm's collection is in order!
