This gallery is something of a tribute to the 59 class, which miraculously saw a revival in their fortunes at the very end of the steam era in New South wales. A shortage of locos saw these US imports returned to service in numbers to help with an unexpected growth in traffic. So even when diesels had almost completed their task of replacing steam, photographers were able to revel in this unexpected show. And as this gallery shows, Malcolm was also there.
