Western Weekend

Over the Queen's birthday weekend, 7 to 9 June 1986, ARHS ACT Division ran an ambitious tour over some of the wheat lines radiating from Temora. Saturday and Sunday dawned foggy but soon became crystal clear. Cloud rolled in very late Sunday and Monday's return trip was a bitterly cold and extensively delayed journey which, nevertheless, managed to fit in a trip over the soon-to-be-closed Yass tram branch. The accumulated delays and ailing condition of 3102T saw diesel assistance from Yass Junction to Canberra, via Goulburn.

The first two images were taken on the Saturday morning at Temora loco while the next five were all taken on the Saturday afternoon at Rankins Springs, destination for the first day's out-and-back trip. The next two images were taken during the out-bound leg of the Saturday trip.

The Sunday jaunt was meant to go to Lake Cargelligo but, after many trials and tribulations, admitted defeat late afternoon and turned back at Ungarie, location of the final image.
