During August 1973, TGR in conjunction with Ansett Airlines ran a series of steam-hauled trips under the banner of the Rail Fans Festival with passengers coming from interstate and overseas. The eight day Festival covered most lines still open with M3, H2 and CCS23 providing the steam power. Here, on 13 August, we see M3 and train departing Burnie for points west. Monday's trip took in the far west Smithton and Stanley lines before returning to Burnie, and continuing on to Devonport for its overnight stop.
