Tales of the
Mongrel
Mogul

On Saturday 29 November 1975, the fledgling Don River Railway ran a fund-raising trip from Launceston to Scottsdale over the difficult North East Line. In the capable hands of Driver Norm Bean, the aging loco handled the grades well with about five cars on the drawbar.

The Launceston to Cold Water Creek Junction section of the North East line was extensively rebuilt or bypassed as part of the construction of the new Bell Bay line. CCS23 has the train well in hand on the easier grades of the new alignment as it nears Rocherlea at 09:55.
